John 6:30
"What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?"

What's it like to be in the central processing unit of heaven, prayer lines ringing off the hook, miracles needed everywhere? 5,000 need to be fed in Albania, a baby needs a new heart valve in southern Illinois, an accident needs to be averted in Minneapolis...the intercessors are busy, calling for healings, jobs, food, compassion, recovery.

Jesus said, "The poor you will always have with you." One block from Lake Shore Drive in Chicago the poor live in the alley. In our own lives most of us are a couple paychecks away from financial fear and trouble. The split second it takes an accident to happen can change our lives forever. And God tells us to stop worrying so much about these possibilities, and to let him handle the future. Expect the miracles to come, and let them come. Don't get in the way by questioning or doubting God's plan for us.

The basic miracle dispensed by the heavenly CPU is what these days we call a "paradigm shift." Jesus will feed and heal us, but more importantly he will teach us to look differently at food and health.

The Marines have a fine phrase for the paradigm shift they invoke in boot camp, "Pain is ... weakness leaving the body." As a young soldier takes in these words, his pain suddenly represents a good thing happening. The future is bright because the present is painful.

The bread Jesus gave the people yesterday fed them for a day; he wants to give them bread that will feed them for a lifetime. What stops him is that they want something else and refuse to receive what he has. If he can show us how to see our needs differently and receive from him what we need the most, he will have performed the most magnficent miracle of all.

Let me see my life through your eyes, Lord.
