Attending Jesus - Easter Tuesday

Tuesday, March 29, 2005

Acts 2:37
The people cried out, "Brothers, what shall we do?"

Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Jesus spoke of this before his death and resurrection. He said, "I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you."

And he said again after he returned from death, "Wait for the gift my Father promised ... in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."

But Jesus, surely you are all I need. What are you saying about something else? Someone else? I don\'t understand stuff of the spirit. Even physical existence is beyond my ken - where I come from, how I breathe, how my heart just keeps on beating. At least you have breath too, and your heart beats, and your blood flows, even out of the wounds of your crucifixion.

So what can I expect now? What changes will the "Holy Spirit" bring? This is scary for me, Jesus, although I appreciate your assurance. Watching the disciples of Jesus now, full of this Spirit you speak of, I see their transformation. They are flying high. Their words ring with certainty and power. They walk with God. Holy men. Is that what I can expect too?

Holy Spirit, come.
