Safe with Father

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

John 8:37
Jesus said, "You are trying to kill me because my word has no room among you."

Jesus is about to get himself killed. His words are getting him in trouble with the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world. And he's not backing down.

He is confident. Jesus always claims only to speak and do what he hears from God. His "Father." Either Jesus is very arrogant or he knows God better than anyone else has ever known Him, to call him Father.

Listen to me, Jesus tells them. You can call him Father too. Let him love you. Let him change your life. "If you remain in my word you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32).

There may not be many all-or-nothing situations in life, but this is one of them. The Father says, "all in," and Jesus says the same thing. But he promises so much. Just do it, and watch God's love blossom in you, and bloom, and keep on growing. Death will no longer have dominion.

Not so fast, Jesus. There are plenty of people who hear nothing but heresy here. And they are going to kill you. Death is on your doorstep.

Jesus, to watch you move toward and through crucifixion into resurrection informs my steps toward and through my life, all those days between body birth and body death, and eternal life. Life outside time, life in the moment, life in You.
