Children, go where I send thee

1 John 3:1
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!

Exclamation marks are rarely used in English translations of the Bible; here are two in a row. This is what gets John, old man that he is, excited...to be a child, made and held and eternally loved by an eternal father.

My favorite worship songs let me sing to God as a child:

I'm in love with you, for you have called me child.
You reached out and touched me, you heard my lonely cry,
I will praise your name forever, and give you all my life...

My heart is glad that you've called me your own,
There's no place I'd rather be than in your arms of love,
Holding me still, holding me near, in your arms of love...

Jesus loves me, this I know,
for the Bible tells me so,
Little ones to him belong,
they are weak but he is strong.

On the radio this morning talk-show host Stevie Jay spoke to his nine year old son Nathaniel on his birthday. "How do you feel this morning?"

"Well, I feel a little taller, actually."

I thought that was pretty neat. I feel taller when I think about being God's child now and tomorrow and always. A lot taller. Exclamation-mark taller!

Father, thank you for teaching me to work, and thank you too for showing me how to play. Let me walk in your big footsteps, Lord, and when you jump high with joy, show me how to do that too!
